Application fields of lithium iron phosphate batteries

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries offer advantages including high working voltage, high energy density, long cycle life, excellent safety performance, low self-discharge rate, and no memory effect, making them widely applicable across various fields. Below are their main application areas:


1. New Energy Vehicle Industry: Due to their safety and low cost, LFP batteries are widely used in passenger cars, buses, logistics vehicles, and low-speed electric vehicles. In China, over half of the electric vehicle models developed by numerous automotive R&D and manufacturing companies adopt lithium batteries, with a growing trend. For instance, BYD’s full range of electric vehicles primarily used LFP blade batteries.


2. Starting Power Sources: Starting-type LFP batteries, in addition to the characteristics of power lithium batteries, offer instant high-power output capability. Power-type lithium batteries with less than 1 kWh of usable energy can replace traditional lead-acid batteries, and BSG motors can replace traditional starters and generators. This not only enables idle start-stop functionality but also provides engine-off coasting, coasting and braking energy recovery, acceleration assistance, and electric cruising functions.


3. Energy Storage Market:

Renewable Energy Grid Integration: LFP batteries have been applied in projects like the national wind-solar-storage demonstration project, effectively improving equipment efficiency and resolving local voltage control issues.

Peak Shaving for Power Grids: LFP battery energy storage systems can replace pumped-storage power stations to handle peak grid loads. They are not restricted by geographical conditions, offer flexible siting, lower investment and land requirements, and reduced maintenance costs.

Distributed Power Stations: LFP battery systems can reduce or prevent power outages caused by grid failures or unexpected events, playing a vital role in ensuring reliable power supply for hospitals, banks, command centers, etc.

UPS Power Supplies: Compared to lead-acid batteries, LFP batteries offer longer cycle life, greater safety and stability, environmental friendliness, and lower self-discharge rates, making them ideal for UPS backup batteries.


4. Military Equipment and Aerospace:

Military Equipment: LFP battery packs serve as power starting sources, wireless communication radio power sources, and power for miniature unmanned reconnaissance aircraft. Additionally, laser sights, night vision devices, and pilot survival radios now commonly use lithium-ion batteries.

Aerospace: Lithium batteries are used in geosynchronous orbit satellites and low-earth orbit communication satellites as power sources for launch, in-flight corrections, and ground operations.


5. Other Fields:

Large Electric Vehicles: Such as buses, electric cars, sightseeing vehicles, and hybrid vehicles.

Light Electric Vehicles: Including electric bicycles, golf carts, small electric trolleys, forklifts, cleaning vehicles, and electric wheelchairs.

Power Tools: Such as electric drills, saws, and lawnmowers.

Remote-controlled Toys: Cars, boats, airplanes, etc., providing stable power.

Small Medical Devices and Portable Instruments: Ensuring normal operation of equipment.
